Domestic Violence Awareness
Did you know that in the United States every Nine Seconds a woman is beaten or assaulted? Did you also know that more than Three Women are murdered every day by their significant other? Unfortunately, that is just a few of the statistics.
As a way of giving back to my local community, I donate 10% every jewelry sale to New Horizons. They help survivors of domestic violence put their lives back together.
Today I'm writing my blog about domestic violence because October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. We all know it exists, but I wonder if people realize the extent of it. That's one of the many reasons I chose New Horizons for my place of donation. Also, because it hit so close to home.
There are a couple of people near and dear to my heart who suffered domestic violence. I didn't know about it until they had the courage to leave. They kept it to themselves for years. When they finally felt like they could somewhat support themselves and their children, they left.
I created this Healing Heart Pendant Necklace in honor of all the survivors and those that didn't make it out. The cut down the middle is the scar left from healing. Each scar is different because each survivor has a different story. No two heart pendant necklaces will be the same because I hand cut each one. I donate 20% of every sale from the Healing Heart Pendant Necklace to New Horizons.
